December 16, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Council of the EU has imposed restrictive measures on 26 individuals and two companies in Belarus in connection with human rights abuses in the country and its support for the Russian war on Ukraine, the legislative body said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It noted that “restrictive measures were imposed on various members of the judiciary, namely judges who issued politically motivated sentences, including against citizens who voiced their opinions against the [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka regime, the system and the brutality of Belarusian law enforcement structures, and are therefore responsible for the repression of civil society and the democratic opposition. Furthermore, restrictive measures are also imposed on the heads and deputy heads of various correctional institutions (prisons and a pre-trial detention centre), as well as the head of a medical unit in one of these institutions, where a number of political prisoners face inhumane conditions and are subject to abuses.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list includes judges Vital Sini\u0142a, Iryna Pradun, Vadzim Mazol, Nina \u0160astak, Viera Fi\u0142onik, Iryna Majko, Vasil Biahun, Ja\u016dhien Brehan, Alaksandar Mochara\u016d, Alesia Osipava and Viktar Novik. Officers Vadzim Mura\u0161ka, Siarhiej Biarej\u0161yk, Mika\u0142aj Mu\u0161karo\u016d, Siarhiej Pietrakovi\u010d and Viktar \u0141utca\u016d. Businessmen Ihar Subocin, Aleh Ar\u0142o\u016d, Andrej Rybako\u016d, Aleh Barabana\u016d, Aleh Hierasim, Aleh Piatro\u016d, Andrej \u015aviryda\u016d, D\u017amitry Zamulevi\u010d and U\u0142adzimir Arkad\u017aje\u016d. And Alaksiej \u0160vako\u016d, chairman of the Belarusian National Bar Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restrictions also target Vlate Logistik (V\u0141ATE \u0141ahistyk), which owns two checkpoints at the European-Belarusian border, and Ruzekspeditsiya (Ruzek\u015bpiedycyja), which helps circumvent EU sanctions “by participating in the delivery of cars prohibited to be sold, supplied, transferred or exported.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
