December 11, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Belarusian Armed Forces have deployed a Tor-M2 battery to defend the capital, said the defense ministry\u2019s press office, noting that it will be put on \u201ccombat alert duty\u201d soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement comes weeks after the defense ministry reported that it had received an upgraded Tor-M2 (SA-15 Gauntlet) short-range surface-to-air missile battery on November 21. Russian designers improved the equipment taking into account Ukraine combat experience, it said, noting that one system can engage 16 targets simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s statement from the ministry quotes Andrej Lukjanovi\u010d, commander of the Air\/Air Defense Forces, as saying that Belarus pursues a peaceful policy, “relying on a compact but well-trained and equipped army.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, in 2024, the Air\/Air Defense Forces received more than 40 types of weapons, hardware and special equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He accused Belarus’ Western neighbors of militarization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our strength and ability to ensure peace and security on the Belarusian soil are being tested in the run-up to the main political event [January’s election],” Lukjanovi\u010d said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tor-M2 systems are also stationed near the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant outside Astraviec, Hrodna region, close to the border with Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
