December 6, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Minsk\u2019s role in Russia-organized forceful displacement, indoctrination and militarization of more than 90,000 Ukrainian kids remains in the background, Kateryna Rashevska of Ukraine’s Regional Center for Human Rights told the US Helsinki Commission in Washington, DC yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime instructs Ukrainian children to be ready to die for Russia, the country that commits atrocities against their motherland, she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expert cited findings of the Stolen Childhood report by Freedom House, Belarusian and Ukrainian rights groups, accusing Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and his officials of \u201cactively implementing the Russian state policy of destroying Ukrainian identity through systematic indoctrination and reeducation of children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many parents are forced to give their consent to sending their children to Belarus or do so fearing for their children’s lives, without knowing what happens inside the so-called \u201ceducational camps,\u201d Rashevska said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Stolen Childhood report says that \u0141uka\u0161enka \u201cpersonally laid the foundation for the displacement\u201d of at least 2,219 Ukrainian children to Belarus since 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Displaced children are enrolled in Belarusian schools but receive instruction in Russian and face Russian propaganda narratives, including hatred of Ukrainians, the report noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe regime furthers the indoctrination process through so-called cultural programs, in which political, religious, and cultural figures tell Ukrainian children that they are, in fact, Russian,\u201d it stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, Ukrainian children have separate study programs, specifically focusing on erasing Ukrainian national identity, rights defenders said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian GONGOs, including Paralympian Alaksiej Ta\u0142aj\u2019s foundation, provide the necessary infrastructure for indoctrination and militarization of Ukrainian children, while the Union State of Russia and Belarus contributes funding, the report noted. In the first two years of Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine, it reportedly allocated more than $300,000 for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk and Moscow use traumatized Ukrainian children for propaganda purposes to justify and legitimize their displacement and indoctrination, rights defenders stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
