November 14, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> \u201cGod forbid a woman gets elected\u201d president in Belarus, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has told the state-run media during his visit to the renovated Traktor Stadium in Minsk ahead of the January 21-26 presidential vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe president of the United States has different powers, while here you have to delve into everything,\u201d he said. “In Belarus, the president is the commander-in-chief. And then, it’s the hardest job. You shouldn’t burden a woman so much, it’s not a ceremonial position. . . . I adore women, I don’t belittle their role at all. But they have to be at the [man\u2019s] side.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A week ago, \u0141uka\u0161enka claimed that the United States was not yet ready to elect a female president, referring to former US presidential candidate Kamala Harris as a \u201cheroic woman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka is known for his misogynistic remarks. Four years ago, in the run-up to the 2020 election, he said a woman could not cope with responsibilities as head of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
