November 8, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Holding a presidential election in Belarus is unacceptable in the current circumstances and its result will not be considered legitimate, the foreign affairs committee of the Czech parliament said in a resolution Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It pointed out that Viktar Babaryka and Siarhiej Cichano\u016dski, presidential candidates in the 2020 election, are currently in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawmakers called on Minsk to release Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ale\u015b Bialacki and all other political prisoners unjustly jailed for their peaceful support of democracy and human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also demanded an end to the persecution of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s exiled opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seventh presidential election is set for January 2025, with Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka planning to run. Seven initiative groups have been registered to collect signatures for potential candidates, while four were denied registration. The pro-democracy forces have urged Belarusians to vote “against all” to demonstrate their opposition to \u0141uka\u0161enka and demand free and fair elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
