November 6, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Veterans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs “will not remain on the sidelines of the election campaign,” Minister Ivan Kubrako\u016d said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told veterans in Minsk that he plans to involve them in maintaining public order at polling stations, and that experienced former police officers will become members of election commissions and observers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus has about 27,000 police veterans, he said, according to the ministry’s press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I have confidence in our veterans! They are the gold reserve of the minister of internal affairs. And if necessary, they will stand in combat formations and lead the youth,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka plans to run for the seventh term in the presidential election scheduled for January 21-26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian pro-democracy leaders have called on Belarusians to vote against all candidates and demand free and fair elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
