November 4, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has proposed reducing the production of mineral fertilizers to increase their cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Appointing Andrej Rybako\u016d as CEO of the Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij (Belaruskali) potash giant, he instructed the executive to discuss the proposal with Russian and other partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka noted the remarkably low potash prices. “Maybe we should talk to the Russians, consult with them to reduce the production of potash fertilizers by 10\u201311 percent. This would hardly create a shortage on the market, but everyone would understand that this is an expensive product and they have to pay a reasonable price,” his press office quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also stressed the need to cut production costs. “I am sure that you know how to reduce them,” he told the new CEO. “The added value, including per employee, should also be raised to the world level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged Rybako\u016d to increase sales in foreign markets. “If Europe does not want to work with us, God bless them,” he said in a reference to EU sanctions on Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experts estimate that the global potash market will grow from $20.2 billion to $28.1 billion in 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 2023, then Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik said that Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij’s share of the world market had decreased from 20 percent to 9 percent due to the sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
