November 1, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Minsk-based National Belarusian Drama Theater has fired three actors after their politically-motivated detention, Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Maksim Brahiniec, D\u017amitryj Davidovi\u010d and Arciom Kure\u0144 were sentenced to jail terms for petty hooliganism under the Code of Administrative Offenses. Their release was reported two days ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After their arrest, the theater canceled some shows because of the lack of back-up actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August, the company sacked Director \u015aviat\u0142ana Karukina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the 2020 election, many actors left the theater in protest against police brutality. Mika\u0142aj Sto\u0144ka and Andrej Novik quit their jobs, while Illa Jasinski emigrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theater dismissed artistic director Alaksandar Harcuje\u016d in late 2021. Alena Bajarava, Maryja Piatrovi\u010d, Maryna Zdarankova and Maksim \u0160y\u0161ko left the company in the spring of 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Belarusian theaters have also experienced purges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Culture Minister Anatol Markievi\u010d said on October 13 that his agency had purged the industry of \u201cdestructive elements,\u201d noting that the cultural community focused its efforts on \u201cbringing up decent citizens and patriots.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
