October 18, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Kevin Doyle from the US Department of State and US Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires Peter Kaufman discussed the situation of political prisoners with Belarusian diplomats in Minsk this week, Belsat<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The talks reportedly did not bring any clarity to the situation, it noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit came amid tension between two countries over allegations of human rights abuses, Minsk\u2019s reluctance to release political prisoners and support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exact date of the meeting remains unknown, yet three days ago, the US Embassy in Minsk held a reception for foreign diplomats on the occasion of Doyle\u2019s visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington maintains official contacts with the Belarusian foreign ministry to ensure routine diplomatic communications and protect the US national interests, the US embassy in Lithuania told Belsat<\/em> in a comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A graduate of Harvard, Doyle had previously worked at the US embassies in Hungary and India. Currently, he is a foreign service officer in charge of economic ties with Belarus and Moldova at the Department of State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
