October 11, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Committee for State Security earlier this week designated the Fine to Be Active project (Bel.: Akty\u016dnym By\u0107 Fajna), an informal education project, as an extremist group, according to an updated list published by the Belarusian interior ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list of extremist groups contains 267 entries. The designation carries a lengthy prison sentence for those associated with the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julija Mickievi\u010d, a feminist activist whom authorities associate with the project, told Pozirk<\/em> that the designation will not affect the group\u2019s work, noting that its website, abfby.org<\/em>, will soon be back online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe follow security protocols adopted by our organization. We . . . provide maximum support and solidarity to all those who can found themselves vulnerable because of what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group is based in Lithuania and has branches in Poland, Ukraine, Georgia and Sweden, according to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interior ministry has banned its social media pages, most of which are down. The initiative’s Telegram channel has 785 subscribers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information ministry also added Fine to Be Active pages to the list of extremist content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fine to Be Active was founded in 2015 as a “Belarusian-Swedish project to popularize a methodology of Swedish (study) circles.” It was outlawed in Belarus in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
