October 5, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and his officials are “actively implementing the Russian state policy of destroying Ukrainian identity through systematic indoctrination and reeducation of children,” says<\/a> a joint report by Freedom House, Belarusian and Ukrainian rights groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Stolen Childhood report is based on open-source data and information obtained by the BelPol association of former Belarusian law enforcers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key findings say that \u0141uka\u0161enka \u201cpersonally laid the foundation for the displacement” of at least 2,219 Ukrainian children to Belarus since 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Displaced children are enrolled in Belarusian schools but receive instruction in Russian and face Russian propaganda narratives, including hatred of Ukrainians, the report noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The regime furthers the indoctrination process through so-called cultural programs, in which political, religious, and cultural figures tell Ukrainian children that they are, in fact, Russian,” it stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, Ukrainian children have separate study programs, specifically focusing on erasing Ukrainian national identity, rights defenders said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian GONGOs, including Paralympian Alaksiej Ta\u0142aj’ foundation, provide the necessary infrastructure for indoctrination and militarization of Ukrainian children, while the Union State of Russia and Belarus contributes funding, the report noted. In the first two years of Russia’s war against Ukraine, it reportedly allocated more than $300,000 for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights groups urged the international community to work out a mechanism to facilitate the return of children and seek an arrest warrant for \u0141uka\u0161enka and Talaj.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
