September 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has said that he is ready to improve relations with Poland “as soon as tomorrow.” However, Warsaw has taken actions that are not conducive to easing tension, he told ethnic minority leaders living in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I will not talk about our relations with the Polish leadership. I do not want to say that we have brilliant relations with all Poles in Poland, but 99 percent of Poles understand our policy and, I am sure, support it. Our policy toward Poland is not aggressive. We are not trying to impose our policy on Poland or go to war with Poland. We perfectly understand that millions would die in that war, and no one would win it,” \u0141uka\u0161enka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the current and previous Polish governments tried to turn Poland into a US puppet. He then accused Polish leaders of seeking to annex western Belarus and western Ukraine. “Some still have these ambitions,” \u0141uka\u0161enka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also blamed Warsaw for closing border crossings and being hostile to “constructive” Poles in Belarus. He urged it to realize that “it is impossible to bring us on our knees . . . It would be a waste of money and, God forbid, human lives.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
