September 9, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> In the last two years, Kyiv has kept around 14,000 troops near its border with Belarus, Alaksandar Valfovi\u010d, state secretary of the Belarusian Security Council, told ONT <\/em>on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His estimate differs significantly from 120,000 mentioned by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka a few weeks ago in an interview with Rossiya<\/em> TV channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valfovi\u010d said Belarus deployed about 4,000 troops to the shared border with Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine. Authorities in Minsk denied the Belarusian army\u2019s involvement in combat operations but allowed Russian troops and weapons to move freely through the country, use its airspace, refuel and store military equipment and attack Ukraine from its territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 20,000-strong grouping of Russian forces crossed into Ukraine from Belarus at the outset of the war, \u0141uka\u0161enka told journalists in July 2022, while Ukraine estimated their number at some 70,000 troops and 7,000 armored vehicles. Later, the Russian army was forced to retreat from northern Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
