September 2, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>A real teacher should uphold high educational standards and respect students and their parents instead of relying on <\/em><\/strong>instructions from political authorities, Alina Ko\u016d\u0161yk of the opposition transition cabinet has said in her address timed to the start of the new academic year in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teachers cannot be used as propaganda tools and have the right to their political views, she stressed in response to the recent Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s statement describing teachers as his supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the number of school students fell by 20,000 to 1,070,000; schools, by 217 to 2,872, the education ministry said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of first-graders has been declining over the past few years with about 105,000 first-graders enrolled this year, 13,000 fewer than in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
