September 1, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A Belarusian school is testing a modern history textbook that presents the 2020 unrest as an attempted coup, Education Minister Andrej Ivaniec told the ONT<\/em> television channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials designed the textbook for 11th graders. “We will certainly reflect on the 2020 events there. They have already found their reflection with all the assessments, why, and who wanted to commit this or that. We will directly call it a coup d’\u00e9tat,” Ivaniec said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The handbook would also tell students about the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly and elections for the National Assembly and local councils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August, an education official from the Minsk Regional Executive Committee said schools will host monthly lectures on genocide against Belarusians. It is crucial that children “remember and do not repeat the mistakes of the past,” Natalla Dudkina said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Minsk launched a campaign to highlight the genocidal dimensions of massacres committed by the Germans in 1941\u201343.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years ago, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed a law to criminalize genocide denial, while officials and propaganda workers often try to pin genocide on opposition activists by calling them “fascists.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prosecutor General Andrej \u0160vied personally contributed content by editing the “Genocide Against the Belarusian People During the Great Patriotic War” textbook for 5th graders, in which he accuses voters who took to the street to protest election fraud in 2020 of using Nazi symbols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0160vied also referred to Belarus\u2019 historic white-red-white flag, used by the opposition, as a \u201csymbol of Nazism and genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
