August 21, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Judge Lubo\u016d Simachina of the Minsk City Court will preside over the trial of managers of the Imaguru startup hub scheduled to begin on September 2, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charges against exiled Imaguru co-founders Ta\u0107ciana Maryni\u010d and Anastasija Chamiankova range from inciting hatred and calling for sanctions to association with an extremist group and plotting to seize overthrow the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former manager Ja\u016dhien Puha\u010d, held in custody since July 2023, is accused of tax evasion and participation in an armed group abroad. The latter charge may be linked to his pro-Ukrainian position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exiled Maryni\u010d and Chamiankova will be tried in absentia, but Puha\u010d will appear in court in person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities seized their Belarus-based property, including land plots and real estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 2023, the Committee for State Security (KGB) branded Imaguru an extremist group, listing Andrej Novak and Kaciaryna Boulton-Smith along with Maryni\u010d and Chamiankova as members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imaguru used to be one of the most popular meeting platforms for businesspeople, startups and investors in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2021, it moved to Madrid and set up branches in Warsaw and Vilnius after Belarusian authorities had evicted the company from its Minsk office.
