Belarusian Railway hoping for restoration of passenger link with Europe

July 24, Pozirk. Belarusian Railway has proposed restoring passenger links with western Europe for three years, said Siarhiej Šemiet, a deputy department head.
“There has been no clear and meaningful response from the other side,” he told a press conference in Minsk.
“We hope the transportation will be restored, but it is difficult to say when.”
Passenger traffic between Belarus and its western neighbors, Lithuania, Poland and Latvia, was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, these routes accounted for 20 percent of company’s international rail traffic.
Restrictions on rail transportation in the European Union has been gradually lifted since May 2021.
There is daily bus service between Minsk and Vilnius, Riga and Warsaw. There is also freight traffic.
