Łukašenka to stay in country’s east after reported illness

July 7, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka has said that July is one of the most difficult months because of a large number of mass events and the harvest campaign, his press office reported.
Speaking yesterday at a festival in Aleksandryja, Škłoŭ district, he said he had just returned from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kazakhstan.
“I planned in advance to land here,” he said in the town where he attended high school. He added that there is a lot of unfinished business in the east. “I will work from here in the coming times,” he announced.
He noted that it is easier to recover after hard work in his homeland.
Łukašenka promised to supervise the harvest.
On the night of July 5, Russian independent TV Rain reported that Łukašenka was sick during the SCO summit in Astana.
The channel said he felt ill on July 3, a couple of hours after arriving in the Kazakh capital.
Other summit participants witnessed his deteriorating condition, according to the report. As he delivered a speech and met with leaders, he looked worse than he did at this week’s parade in Minsk.
“His face is pale and glossy, and his speech is not very confident,” it said.
In 2021, Belarusian opposition politician Pavieł Łatuška, a former government minister, said that Łukašenka has 15 residences, including one in the Škłoŭ district.
