All-Belarusian People’s Assembly to convene in late April
March 18, Pozirk. The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, a new political body formed of officials and pro-government activists, will convene on April 24-25, Alaksandar Łukašenka has told officials.
Authorities must foil any attempts by opponents and the West to disrupt it, his press office quoted him as saying.
The assembly is to be formed of up to 1,200 delegates with a five-year mandate and convene at least once a year.
It will approve key domestic and foreign policies, military doctrines, national security documents, as well as socioeconomic plans. It is eligible to propose constitutional amendments and rule on the legitimacy of elections.
By March 31, local councils of deputies of various levels and branches of pro-government associations can nominate delegates to the Assembly who are expected to be approved between April 1 and 10.
