Belarus reports decrease in average nominal pay in January
February 26, Pozirk. Nominal gross average pay (before taxes) fell by 12 percent to 1,991 rubels (about $614) in January but was 18.18 percent higher than in the same month of 2023, the National Statistics Committee (Biełstat) reported.
Inflation in January rose by 0.8 percent from December and by 5.9 percent year on year, it added.
Minsk is traditionally leading in nominal average pay with 2,698 rubels, while the Mahiloŭ region posted the lowest pay of 1,667 rubels.
Average pay in IT and communication sectors was the highest with 5,182 rubels, followed by financial and insurance professionals (3,534 rubels), construction (2,180), industry (2,174), wholesale and retail trade (1,819). Lower earnings were recorded in healthcare (1,662), education (1,447), administrative and support services (1,389).
The government projects real income to rise by 3.9 percent in 2024; real disposable income, by 3.5 percent; nominal average monthly pay, up to 2,087 rubels (1,634 rubels in the public sector).
