Łukašenka gives officials two weeks to eradicate theft, alcohol abuse in agriculture
July 21, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka has given Prime Minister Alaksandar Turčyn and State Control Committee Chairman Vasil Hierasimaŭ two weeks to tackle problems in agriculture as he addressed officials ahead of the harvest campaign.
“No one will tolerate chaos, drunkenness or theft,” the state-run media outlets quoted him as saying just a day after Siarhiej Aŭsijevič, deputy head of the interior ministry’s economic crimes unit, said that 90 percent of crimes in the agricultural sector were related to theft.
“[Discipline] must be ironclad, both as far as compliance with procedures and the performance of duties are concerned,” he was quoted by Pul Pervogo, a Telegram channel linked to his press office.
The Belarusian ruler warned his regional aides and chiefs that they would bear personal responsibility for ensuring order during the harvest campaign.
“I know who shows up there and who doesn’t,” Łukašenka noted. “If you think you can just take a quick stroll, then sit in your office and pretend you were there and did something, it won’t work.”
