Former Ukraine corpsman named opposition’s deputy social chief

April 8, Pozirk. Anastasija Machamiet, a former frontline medical worker with a Belarusian volunteer unit fighting for Ukraine, has been appointed as deputy chief for social policy at the opposition United Transitional Cabinet (UTC).
UTC head Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has approved her appointment “in accordance with established procedure.”
Machamiet will be responsible for engagement with volunteers and their families.
Volha Zazulinskaja, the social policy chief, praised Machamiet’s qualifications and described it as “very important for the representation and the entire UTC.”
Born in Ivacevičy, Brest region, Anastasija Machamiet, studied at Belarusian State Medical University and was one of the founders of its independent labor union organization. At the end of 2021, she fled from Belarus for fear of politically motivated persecution. After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, she joined the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment as commander of its medical company. She served in the active combat zone, providing evacuation and treatment to wounded soldiers. She retired in 2025 on health grounds. She holds combat awards and veteran status in Ukraine.
In September 2024, Alaksandar Łukašenka’s regime recognized the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment as a “terrorist organization.” In response, the regiment declared the regime a “terrorist organization.”
In April 2025, the Minsk Regional Court imposed lengthy prison terms in absentia on five members of the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment, including Machamiet, who were given 18 years in prison. Authorities subsequently placed her on their lists of persons involved in “extremist” and “terrorist” activities.
