Belarus’ opposition to open an office in Madrid this year

April 8, Pozirk. Belarus’ opposition forces plan to open an office in Madrid later this year.

Śviatlana Cichanoŭskaja discussed the arrangements with Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno during her visit to Spain on April 7, the Belarusian politician’s press office reported.

The office is expected to coordinate the opposition’s diplomatic efforts in a wider region.

Cichanoŭskaja thanked Madrid for contributing €50,000 to the International Humanitarian Fund for Belarus’ political prisoners and discussed a possible second contribution. She also thanked Spain for recognizing expired Belarusian passports.

Earlier, Cichanoŭskaja met Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Her visit will also feature a meeting with the Belarusian communities in Spain and a guest lecture at IE University on her struggle for democracy in Belarus.
