Belarus saw warmest and driest March since WWII

April 4, Pozirk. March 2026 was Belarus’ warmest and driest March since the end of World War II, according to Biełhidramiet.
The average temperature reached +5.8°C, which is 5 degrees higher than the norm.
Similarly warm Marches were recorded in 2007 and 2025, with an average temperature of 5.2°C.
Notably, 90 percent of Belarus’ weather stations recorded new temperature highs, surpassing records set in 2007, 2014, and 2025.
March temperatures fell below the norm only once in the past 13 years, in March 2018.
This year, average daily temperatures rose above 0°C one to two weeks earlier than usual, in late February, and exceeded the 5°C threshold on March 8–11, marking the start of the vegetation period across the country. This occurred 20–30 days earlier than normal.
The warmest day of the month was recorded in Kasciukovičy (20°C) on March 31, while the coldest was in Kličaŭ (-9.2°C) on March 8.
The month also saw exceptionally low precipitation, totaling just 3.8 millimeters (3.8 liters per square meter), or only 10 percent of the norm. The previous driest March was recorded in 2022, with 6 mm of precipitation.
February 2026 was Belarus’ coldest February in the past 14 years, while January was the coldest January in the past 16 years.
