Military down at least one drone over Homiel last week – reports

March 2, Pozirk. A Belarusian military helicopter downed at least one Russian drone over Homiel in southern Belarus on February 26, Flagshtok reported.
The incident occurred in the morning over the city’s western industrial outskirts after a military helicopter pursued the unmanned aerial vehicle, eyewitnesses said.
The drone was likely brought down by small-arms fire from the helicopter.
On February 26, at least five Russian Shahed-136 drones capable of carrying about 50 kg of explosives were spotted over Homiel, Flagshtok said earlier. The drones were likely heading to attack Ukraine but for some reason strayed from their original route.
Last month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in 2025, Russia deployed a system of relay antennas in Belarus to control attack drones and boost the Russian army’s capabilities to strike northern Ukraine.
Belarusian troops regularly use aircraft and surface-to-air missile systems to destroy drones that enter the country’s airspace, according to Andrej Łukjanovič, commander of Belarus’ Air/Air Defense Forces.
