Belarus’ athletes fail to win medals at Winter Olympics for the first time during independence

February 21, Pozirk. Belarusian athletes failed to win a single medal at the Winter Olympics for the first time since 1994. The Games will draw to a close in Italy’s Milano and Cortina on February 22.

Skier Hanna Karalova placed 34th in the women’s 2×10 km skiathlon, 48th in the 1.5 km cross-country sprint and 48th in the 10 km ski cross.

Speed skater Maryna Zujeva finished 15th in the 3,000 m and sixth in the 5,000 m, the team’s best result. On February 21, she failed to qualify for the mass start final.

Viktoryja Safonava did not advance to the figure skating final, finishing 26th.

Freestyler Hanna Huśkova, the 2018 Olympic champion and 2022 silver medalist, placed eighth.

Anastasija Andryjanava and Hanna Dziaruha finished 16th and 17th, respectively, and did not advance to the final.

Maryja Škanava placed 37th after her second slalom run.

Belarusian athletes were admitted as neutral participants because of the country’s involvement in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
