Belarus’ GDP down 1.2 percent in January

February 17, Pozirk. Belarus’ gross domestic product dropped by 1.2 percent year on year last month after a 1.3-percent increase in 2025, the National Statistical Committee (Biełstat) reproted.

GDP growth has been losing momentum throughout last year, falling short of the government’s targeted 4.1-percent expansion.

The government expects the economy to grow by 2.8 percent in 2026.

The International Monetary Fund forecast Belarus’s economic growth at 1.4 percent in 2026. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development lowered its 2026 growth forecast for Belarus to 2.3 percent, while the Eurasian Development Bank projected 1.8 percent economic growth.
