Belarus brands association of students in Poland’s Poznan as extremist group

February 2, Pozirk. Belarus’ Committee for State Security (KGB) on January 28 branded Lichtar, an association of Belarusian students at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, as an extremist group, according to the entry posted by the interior ministry.

The agency named Alaksiej Hrachoŭski, Illa Michnievič and Viktar Baranaŭ as its members. The list of extremist groups, which has been maintained after the 2020 postelection protests, contains 330 entries.

Authorities in Belarus have extensively used extremist and terrorist designations to suppress dissent. Association with an extremist group carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Interior ministry blacklists Belarusians’ association in northern Poland
