Viačorka: Cichanoŭskaja has not moved to Warsaw yet
January 30, Pozirk. Franak Viačorka, a spokesman for Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja, denied reports that Belarus’ pro-democracy leader had moved to Warsaw, but said that preparations were under way.
His comments came shortly after Poland’s Rzeczpospolita made it clear that the politician was expected in Warsaw today.
“Starting Friday [January 30], Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja’s voice in defense of a free Belarus will be heard from Warsaw,” the paper said, citing the Belarusian pro-democracy leader.
The paper interviewed the Belarusian politician during her visit to Warsaw on January 24.
It quoted Cichanoŭskaja as saying that Warsaw was “the first to extend the helping hand” after Lithuania had moved to downgrade her security.
The paper said that Cichanoŭskaja’s husband and her children, currently in the United States, were also expected to move to Warsaw.
Dzianis Kučynski, an aide to Cichanoŭskaja, said on January 22 that the politician would take only part of her team to Warsaw, while others would stay in Vilnius.
