Snow and ice cause power outages in 227 towns across Belarus

January 28, Pozirk. Power supply has been disrupted in 227 towns across the Homiel, Hrodna and Minsk regions after snow and ice accumulated on power lines, the state-run Biełenerha electricity company reported.
As of 11 a.m. Biełenerha teams have been working to restore power to 39 towns.
The Minsk region was among the most affected, with power outages reported in more than 200 towns. Ice also disrupted trolleybus service across Minsk yesterday, forcing the suspension of traffic on several routes.
Biełenerha warned the population not to approach damaged power lines, to keep a distance of at least eight meters and to immediately report any incidents to emergency services.
Today, wet snow, rain and severe icy conditions are expected in Belarus, the Biełhidramiet weather service said, issuing an orange-level weather alert.
