Belarusian volunteer Łazaraŭ killed in action in Ukraine

January 21, Pozirk. The Kastus Kalinoŭski Regiment (KKR) has reported that its former soldier, Belarusian volunteer Alaksej Łazaraŭ, was killed in action in Ukraine.

Łazaraŭ was among the first Belarusians to volunteer to defend Ukraine after the start of the Russian full-scale invasion. He took part in the defense of Kyiv and in the liberation of the Kherson and Nikolaiv regions, as well as in operations in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. At the time of his death, he was serving with the 225th Detached Assault Battalion.

The KKR said it would support his widow, Veronika.

In March 2022, shortly after Moscow launched an offensive on Kyiv, Belarusian volunteers formed the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Battalion. The unit soon joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and later expanded into a regiment.

Alaksandar Łukašenka’s regime has designated the unit a terrorist and extremist organization.

According to available data, around 70 Belarusian volunteers have been killed while fighting against Russia in Ukraine.
