Belarus, Myanmar approve visa waiver agreement

November 28, Pozirk. Belarus and Myanmar have lifted visa requirements for their citizens under a new bilateral agreement signed by Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryžankoŭ and his Myanmar counterpart Than Swe, the Belarusian state-run media report.
Alaksandar Łukašenka, who arrived in Myanmar yesterday on an official two-day visit, negotiated the deal with acting President Min Aung Hlaing. Both politicians have already met in Minsk in March, while Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin visited Myanmar later that month.
“Belarus has everything Myanmar needs today,” the Belarusian ruler’s press office quoted him as saying. “We are prepared not only to sell our products but also to set up joint ventures and train specialists in the technologies we will provide.”
Belarusian officials have sought to expand ties with Myanmar lately. The country has been under military rule after a coup in early 2021, followed by a civil war that has claimed thousands of lives.
Bilateral trade amounted to $8.2 million in 2021, with Belarusian exports at $5.3 million, according to the Belarusian foreign ministry. Minsk has not disclosed more recent data, yet according to state-run media, trade grew to $34.6 million by late 2024 with Belarusian exports at $22.7 million.
