Defense ministry launches second stage of combat readiness drill

October 12, Pozirk. The ongoing military combat readiness check has been underway since October 6 at Alaksandar Łukašenka’s orders, the defense ministry’s press office reports, citing Belarusian Security Council head Alaksandar Valfovič.
The ministry first commented on the exercise yesterday, ahead of launching the second stage, noting that Armed Forces will be brought to the highest level of combat readiness “for the purpose of inspection.”
The first stage of the maneuvers focused on mobilizing units, addressing shortages, replenishing reserves and relocating troops to designated areas, the official said. By October 9, troops had deployed and camouflaged engineering equipment, drawing on Russia’s combat experience in Ukraine, he added.
The second stage, launched today, involved exercises by a tank battalion, which had to relocate over a lengthy route between training grounds under challenging conditions, including crossing temporary bridges over water obstacles, Valfovič noted.
The Belarusian army is regularly conducting drills amid tensions with the West and Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.
