Fires damage harvesters, tractors, reducing Belarus’ depleted farm fleet

October 9, Pozirk. Since the start of October, seven fires have broken out at Belarusian farms, damaging four pieces of agricultural equipment, according to Pozirk‘s analysis of reports by the emergencies ministry.
Since the start of 2025, 48 units of agricultural equipment have been destroyed or damaged at farms, after at least 73 similar incidents were reported in 2024.
Over the past five years, Belarus has seen a significant decline in its farm fleet, which may signal deeper issues in the sector.
Since 2029, the number of grain harvesters has dropped by 14.6 percent to 7,514 in late 2024; beet harvesters, by 27.5 percent; forage harvesters, by 11.6 percent; flax harvesters, by 30.1 percent, according to data from the National Statistical Committee (Biełstat). The number of potato harvesters decreased by nearly a third.
The number of tractors on the farms fell by 9.6 percent to 35,241 vehicles and trucks, by 14.8 percent to 15,228.
