Brest journalist given three years in prison over alleged BAJ link

August 25, Pozirk. Brest-based journalist Aleh Supruniuk has been sentenced to three years in prison for alleged association with an extremist group, most likely the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ), the latter has said.
The 58-year-old with a hearing disability had been held in a pre-trial detention center for more than six months, it noted.
In July 2021, Supruniuk was arrested while the police searched his home. Later, he was fined for sharing opposition content.
At least 36 media workers are held behind bars in Belarus, according to the BAJ.
