German minister praises Poland for securing Belarus border

July 22, Pozirk. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has supported Warsaw’s efforts to combat irregular migration at the Belarus border, according to a report from the Polish Border Guard.
Yesterday, Dobrindt met with Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak at the Połowce-Piaščatka border crossing.
At the meeting, the ministers stressed the importance of coordination between EU member states in response to migration pressure.
Dobrindt called Poland’s actions at the border with Belarus “incredibly impressive.”
“We see how effective you are in combating illegal migration. We want the European Union to provide Poland with financial and organizational support,” the German minister said.
“Together with Germany, France, Austria, the Czech Republic and Denmark, we agreed on the EU migration policy’s direction at the migration summit in Zugspitze, Germany. Here, at the border, we are showing that our actions are concrete and effective,” Siemoniak added.
According to him, Warsaw is effectively protecting the EU’s eastern flank by taking “concrete actions on a large scale.”
Siemoniak said that the border is currently guarded by 11,000 officers, and the measures taken are 97-98 percent effective.
Yesterday, Poland announced the completion of an electronic barrier at all sections of the Belarus border that lack steel fencing.
