Opposition leader urges Croatia to appoint special envoy for Belarus

July 12, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has proposed that Croatia appoint a special envoy for relations with the Belarusian pro-democracy forces as she met Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on the sidelines of the Dubrovnik forum, her press office reports.
Similar appointments have already been made by Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine and the United States, among others, it noted.
Cichanoŭskaja thanked Plenković for the support of jailed Belarusian regime critics and urged Croatia to join the International Humanitarian Fund that assists political prisoners in Belarus.
“Croats truly understand Belarusians who are fighting not only for freedom but also for independence,” she said. “You know how easy it is to lose freedom and how difficult it is to reclaim it. You know well what tyranny is, and that’s why you support Ukraine and free Belarus. We value our friendship and solidarity.”
The sides also discussed preparations for the United Nations General Assembly and potential joint Belarus-themed events in New York during the high-level week.
