Cichanoŭskaja discusses political prisoners with Lithuanian, German presidents

July 7, Pozirk. Opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja met with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Vilnius yesterday to discuss continuing joint efforts to secure the release of Belarusian political prisoners.
Cichanoŭskaja and her husband Siarhiej Cichanoŭski attended a reception hosted by Nausėda on Lithuanian Statehood Day.
“Over the past five years, Lithuania and Germany have repeatedly demonstrated that they are true friends of the Belarusian people. Today, they continue to support democratic changes, help political prisoners and work with us to ensure the safety of Belarusians in exile,” Cichanoŭskaja said, according to her press office.
“We are deeply grateful to Lithuania and Germany for their support. This solidarity is not only about politics. It is about humanity, values and faith in a free Belarus.”
On July 7, Belarusian human rights organizations said that 1,155 documented political prisoners remained in Belarusian prisons.
