Belarus deports Nigerian student after public reprimand

June 27, Pozirk. Police in Viciebsk held a meeting with foreign students at a local university to publicly reprimand a Nigerian student prior to her expulsion from Belarus.
According to the Interior Ministry, the student was ordered to leave the country on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking. Authorities allege that she was recruited by an online group to distribute drugs via hidden caches. However, she never began the activity and was not found in possession of any narcotic substances.
Despite the lack of evidence, she was banned from entering Belarus for five years.
Public reprimands involving law enforcement and other officials have become a common “preventive” measure in Belarusian educational institutions.
Just yesterday, law enforcement conducted a staged disciplinary proceeding at Hrodna State Medical University involving a Russian student accused of stealing a bun, attempting to conceal minced meat in his pocket, and fare evasion.
