Russia to deliver two state-of-the-art fighter jets to Belarus in late May

(Rostec)

May 12, Pozirk. Belarus will receive two Su-30SM2 fighter jets from Russia in late May, Andrej Łukjanovič, commander of the Belarusian Air/Air Defense Forces, has told the state-run STV television channel.

These aircraft are superior to Su-30SM fighters operated by the Belarusian Air Force in terms of firepower, he noted.

The Su-30SM2 is reportedly equipped with longer-range guns and has double the detection range of the Su-30SM.

The Su-30SM2 has a detachable wing with fuel tank inside to facilitate transportation by cargo aircraft, according to Rostec.

Russia has been supplying the Belarusian Air Force with new Mi-35M helicopters and Su-30SM aircraft, Łukjanovič added.

The Belarusian army received 90 new units of equipment last year, including the Russian-made Su-30-SM multirole fighters, MI-35-M combat helicopters and Sopka radar systems, Deputy Defense Minister Andrej Fiedzin said a few months ago.

Some of the new equipment is Belarusian-made, including the Buk-MB anti-aircraft missile system, the Bierkut 2 reconnaissance drone and the Čekan-V attack drone, he noted.
