Polish Internal Security Agency to investigate Mielnikava’s disappearance

April 17, Pozirk. Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) will investigate the disappearance of exiled Belarusian activist Anžalika Mielnikava on the instruction of prosecutors, Polskie Radio reports, citing the National Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The Lublin branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office had launched an investigation in line with a Criminal Code article against deprivation of liberty, prosecutor Katarzyna Calów-Jaszewska said.
The case has been referred to the ABW, she added.
Earlier reports said Polish investigators were considering several possible reasons behind Mielnikava’s disappearance: fraud, embezzling opposition money, acting in the interests of foreign intelligence and being kidnapped by foreign agents.
On March 28, the office of the National Anti-Crisis Management head, Pavieł Łatuška, told Pozirk that she had left Poland and had not contacted associates since March 25. She might have traveled from Poland to the United Kingdom, media reported, noting that a flight was booked in her name.
