Belarus prints banknotes for 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat

March 26, Pozirk. On March 31, Belarus will put into circulation 80,000 banknotes with a face value of 80 rubels to commemorate the 80th anniversary of “the Soviet people’s victory in the Great Patriotic War,” the central bank has announced.
The country will pioneer banknotes of this denomination, as it was never done before anywhere in the world.
The 80-rubel banknote depicts the Brest Fortress monument with a mother’s hand holding the hand of a child on the reverse side. The image also features a national ornament, Minsk buildings and apple blossom in bright pink color.
The document published on the National Legal Internet Portal also lists 2,500 silver coins worth 20 rubels and 5,000 copper-nickel coins worth one rubel to mark the occasion. The coins were minted in Kazakhstan.
Currently, banknotes of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 rubels are circulating in Belarus along with coins worth 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 kopeks and well as 1 and 2 rubels.
The Belarusian government plans grand celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat in World War II this year.
More than 24 ceremonial units and aircraft are expected to participate. Minsk invited military units from Russia, China, as well as troops from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
