Pyongyang denies planning top-level meeting with Łukašenka

January 20, Pozirk. Pyongyang has not offered Minsk to organize a top-level meeting, Kim Yo Jong in charge of North Korea’s propaganda and the younger sister of its leader Kim Jong Un said, refuting Alaksandar Łukašenka’s earlier claim, the Korean Central News Agency reported.
The Belarusian side has been seeking high-level contacts with North Korea for the past two years, but it must “clarify its intention correctly.”
Veracity and frankness should be the starting point for bilateral relations between the countries, she added.
North Korea “would welcome with joy the Belarusian side without any reason if it wishes to develop friendly and cooperative relations with the DPRK from this stand.”
Three days ago, Łukašenka claimed that the leadership of at least five countries, including North Korea, Indonesia and Pakistan, sought top-level meetings to boost ties.
Belarusian authorities started demonstrating interest in North Korea about a year ago, with senior Belarusian diplomats visiting Pyongyang.
During his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi last September Łukašenka suggested that Russia, Belarus and North Korea should consider trilateral cooperation.
North Korean troops fight alongside Russian forces against Ukraine. Authorities in Minsk have supported Russia’s full-scale war on Ukraine since February 2022.
