Łukašenka leaves for Pakistan gripped by political unrest
Islamabad
November 25, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka has left for Pakistan to meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, his press office reported.
The three-day visit is taking place amid political unrest, as thousands of supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan march on Islamabad demanding his release from prison.
The Pakistani capital has been placed under lockdown in a bid to stop protesters – with major roads closed, highways leading to the city blocked and mobile service suspended. There are reports of clashes between protesters and police in multiple locations near the city.
Yesterday, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryžankoŭ and a delegation 68 Belarusian officials and executives arrived in Islamabad ahead of Łukašenka’s visit.
The Belarusian ruler will discuss with Sharif an action plan to expand bilateral ties. The two will reportedly pay “special attention to regional and global security, interaction in integration blocs and joint work on international platforms.” They also plan to negotiate and sign a “package of international agreements.”
The Belarusian delegation will take part in a Pakistani-Belarusian business forum.
