Belarus to co-host “strategic” exercise involving Russian troops

October 28, Pozirk. A joint strategic exercise will be held in Belarus and Russia in September 2025, said Andrej Łukjanovič, commander of the Belarusian Air/Air Defense Forces.
Live-fire operational and tactical drills are planned at training grounds in the two countries as part of the exercise, which will also include joint air drills, Łukjanovič told STV in an apparent reference to the Belarusian-Russian strategic maneuvers Zapad 2025, announced by Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin five days before.
“Events of this scale make it possible to test in practice the combat readiness of our regional group and the ability of our troops to carry out assigned tasks together,” the minister said.
In February 2022, Belarus and Russia held the Allied Resolve exercise in Belarus. Despite assurances by then-Foreign Minister Uładzimir Makiej that all Russian troops would leave Belarus after the maneuvers, the contingent attacked Ukraine on February 24.
Ukrainian border guard spokesman Andriy Demchenko said that Russia and Belarus can deploy troops at Ukraine’s border during Zapad 2025.
