Prime minister off to Oman and Pakistan

October 13, Pozirk. Prime Minister Raman Hałoŭčanka is on a four-day visit to Oman and Pakistan, the Belarusian government announced.
In Oman, he will hold talks with the country’s leadership and sign a substantial package of documents.
In Pakistan, the premier will attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government.
For the first time, Belarus will be at the summit as a full-fledged member. “A number of bilateral meetings are also planned to be held on the sidelines of the forum,” the cabinet said.
According to the Belarusian foreign ministry, trade between Belarus and Oman amounted to $1.5 million in 2021 with Belarusian exports at $0.9 million. Belarus mainly exported potash fertilizers and food.
At the August 20 meeting with the speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Alaksandar Łukašenka stated the need to expand trade between Belarus and Pakistan.
Łukašenka said that annual trade between the two countries amounted to about $50 million on average.
In February 2024, the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad released an assessment of the 30 years’ relationship.
It said that in the first five months of 2023, trade grew by 30 percent, and Belarusian exports to Pakistan increased by 50 percent year on year. It added that Belarus can help Pakistan achieve its goal of increasing the country’s total exports to $100 billion.
