Death of one more political convict reported

August 28, Pozirk. A political convict died in Žodzina’s Prison No. 8 (Minsk region) on August 2, 2023, Mediazona Belarus reported, quoting a source.
The website said it had his name, a copy of his death certificate and a picture of his grave. Papers named hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage as his cause of death.
The website did not disclose the name to keep his family safe.
It reported that in November 2022, a judge sentenced the man to three years in a penal colony on charges of inciting hatred, rioting, calling for sanctions, libeling the head of state and insulting an official.
According to Belarusian human rights organizations, six designated political prisoners died in Belarusian prisons in 2022–2024: Vitold Ašurak, Mikałaj Klimovič, Aleś Puškin, Vadzim Chraśko, Ihar Lednik and Alaksandar Kulinič.
However, human rights groups were not aware of the Žodzina convict’s political persecution and his death went unreported.
